'Tis but a scratch.
-- The Black Knight
If a targeted attack deals as many points of damage to a limb as the victim's size (usually 5), that limb may be crippled. A crippled arm cannot be used to wield a weapon or contribute to defense: anything held by that arm is dropped and the character's Defense is lowered by 1 for the rest of the scene. A crippled leg makes it impossible to walk or stand upright without assistance, and the character's speed is cut in half. Characters can prevent losing their limbs with a reflexive Stamina roll. This roll does not suffer from wound penalties.
Dice Pool: Stamina
Action: Reflexive
Dramatic Failure: The limb comes off, and it's messy. One point of the damage dealt is upgraded from Bashing to Lethal, or Lethal to Aggravated.
Failure: The limb is severed, or pulverized into a useless puddle.
Success: The limb remains attached, but all actions using it suffer a -3 penalty. This penalty lasts until the character receives First Aid, or the scene ends.
Exceptional Success: The limb remains attached and the character suffers no penalties to use it.
