Port Bowen is a bustling city on the coast of Maine. It has an impressive skyline, large urban sprawl, and thriving business sector.
Kyoshi Motokawa Etsuko, or "Shen", runs a martial arts dojo in the western part of the city proper. It's a small, understated place with simple furnishings and not much decoration. The dojo is especially suited to Taekwondo, Shen's discipline, with all the tools and spare equipment to teach that martial art (+2 equipment bonus).
Unlike most dojo masters, Shen allows skilled members of the community to use his dojo when class is not in session. He interviews everyone who asks for access, looking for three things: politeness, respect, and skill. He doesn't discriminate against practitioners of other arts, but they must be much more than students to gain his trust.
Aucocisco Gallery is a contemporary fine art gallery located in the heart of Port Bowen's Arts District. It features new and unique artists across nearly all mediums, both from its own private collection and from touring exhibits. Its name comes from one of the earliest French settlements in the area.
There are a myriad of country clubs dotting the landscape outside of Port Bowen, but this is the oldest. It sees regular use for all kinds of events and frequently serves as the venue for large freehold gatherings. Its day job is a sporting and golf lodge for the city's wealthy crust.
One of Port Bowen's cultural heritage areas, the French District was founded in the 1700s. Its buildings and businesses are styled after France's iconic cities and it sports some of the most expensive stores in town. Also some damn fine cafés. Due to its historical significance, the entire French District is a National Register Historic District.
The District has more than just places to eat and shop: it is home to some of the finest town houses and apartments in the city. Always expensive, these accommodations count movie stars, high-profile bands, and TV actors among their tenants.
