Use High Speech
Jane comes from a family of business people who have managed to strike it big in the last several generations. They attribute their success to good financial sense and a general familial knack for money management - but the fact that the women in the family tend to be mildly psychic certainly doesn't hurt. The course Jane's life would take was clear to everyone from a young age, with scholastic and employment opportunities, as well as Jane's natural abilities, setting her up perfectly to follow in the family's footsteps. It wasn't so much that Jane's family pushed her into one particular path or another. It was just that the objectively "right" way to go about life to give herself a comfortable future was so blindingly obvious that even though she wanted to rebel, Jane couldn't bring herself to mess up the easy path to success.
Jane attended Vanderbilt in the same class as Carmen and Awakened during her senior year finals. Every answer on her final exams turned out to have been correct, despite the fact that the words she thought she was writing had no relation to what actually ended up on the papers she turned in. Fate had it's way with her life once again, as she realized it always had. Now Awakened, she still went into the family business, acting as a stock broker whose risky trades somehow always seem to pay off. Then, just for a bit of fun on the side, she and the cabal have gotten into flipping houses, where artistic sensibilities make the outcomes a little less certain.
While Jane is too reasonable to directly shoot herself in the foot by throwing out all the good fortune she's been given, she still resents the way her life was scripted for her. She couldn't bring herself to make the mistakes that would ordinarily come with youth, because they were too blatantly the wrong choices for the moment. However, Carmen, and now the larger cabal, give her an opportunity to surround herself in the chaos that she craves. Her friends have gotten her into a lot more trouble than she would have dared on her own, which she secretly cherishes them for, even while complaining loudly that it's always their fault.
